Relief Teacher Terms, Conditions and Duties
Relief Teachers perform a range of duties when reporting for duty at a school site as determined by the school.
Reporting for Duty at Schools
Teachers are asked to report for duty at school reception not later than 8.30 am or in the case of an early start at least 30 minutes prior to the commencement of lessons.
Teachers will be required to register at the school and may be asked at this point to provide their verifiable documents. Teachers need to be aware that schools may ask to see copies and or original teacher’s registration and approval to teach documents prior to signing on.
Reception staff if they have not utilized the automated school documents feature of the website may instruct the teacher as to yard duty and lesson or class requirements.
Lesson Planning and Duties
If lesson details have been forwarded via the website appropriate lessons and or lesson requirements should be planned prior to the day. This is to be organised in a professional manner befitting of an experienced educator. Attention should be made to any rosters and or special duty attachments forwarded.
Responsibility of Employers
Although Findateacher does provide a system from which schools can source relief teachers the relevant education departments and schools remain the employers and teachers are employed and paid by these education departments. As such thus are bound by their educational and system guidelines. These guidelines are available direct from the relevant education authorities.
Teachers sourced through the Findateacher system are required to act in a manner befitting of a representative of a professional recruitment organization.
Code of Conduct
Teachers when recruited through findateacher should always refer positively in their communications with schools and or adminstration staff, act professionally and provide as many positive referrals as appropriate.
Any future bookings as determined by the school should be directed through the site and bookings for extensions or additional days should be made via the free sms messaging system to ensure remote calendar automated updates. These updates will save you time and keep the system efficient.
Any breaches of any of the Terms and Conditions will result in a cancellation of registration.
In addition teachers failing to attend as agreed or not perform their duties in an appropriate expected professional manner will be liable to make good and or be penalized as required by the respective school and or education authority.
Duties and professional teacher qualities would include but are not be limited to:

Establishing and maintaining positive and professional working relationships with students, staff and the school community.

Understanding how students learn and reflect this by applying inclusive, effective methodologies.

Achieving a productive learning environments by establishing and maintaining
§ appropriate classroom management strategies,
§ appropriate behavior management strategies,
§ a safe, supportive, inclusive learning environment.

Planning and documenting a program that is relevant and responsive to the needs of all students.

Developing and applying appropriate assessment, reporting and evaluation practices.

Reporting for duty at the required time.

Providing a duty of care for all students to ensure their health and safety.

Reporting suspected child abuse.

Completing administrative tasks including recording and reporting attendance, special needs and behavior.

Assisting children who are hurt, sick or in distress.

Attending meetings as required.

You may be required to undertake duties other than those included above. Many schools have a special instruction welcoming folder for supply teachers.
Verification Fees
Although Registration is free there is a fee for Verification this fee has been kept as low as possible and covers the cost of personel electronically filing and processing your documents. Thus once verified and your documents processed the time has been spent and thus this fee is non-refundable.
Multiple Bookings
When initial one day bookings are extended or other days booked Schools are responsible to update records through the system as if that booking is another booking. Relief Teachers booked will also have the responsibility to renew their bookings on the system.The system does cross-match and consequences such as deregistration can occur in these situations if bookings are not processed as according to the Terms and Conditions outlined.
www.findateacher.com.au is an automated booking system and relies on registered users to take all precautions and due diligence in the selection of prospective teachers and utilisation of the systems offerred.
- As part of the registration process teachers are required to provide copies of their current teachers registration certificates and authority to teach in the respective states they wish to teach in eg Authority to TRT in South Australia and Queensland Registry Card and in New Zealand a Current Teachers Registration Certificate as issued by the New Zealand Teachers Council.
- Although registered teachers have provided these to us as part of the verification process it remains the responsibility of schools to undergo their own due diligence. Registered teachers have been asked to have these documents available for sighting when reporting for duty.
- Registered schools can view these documents in the teacher profile for easy verification on request.
- Schools are able to locate suitable teachers by searching our data bases and obtaining a match. It remains the school responsibility to provide accurate search criteria and to then choose carefully the teachers they book.
- The SMS Notification Service is provided by a Supply Partner and findateacher expressly disclaims any liability to any person or corporation in respect of anything done or omitted to be done arising out of or in reliance to any part of this service.
- Findateacher endeavours to ensure that the SMS functionality is normally available 24 hours a day. It may, however, suspend access to this site without notice at any time and accepts no liability for any consequences from the site being unavailable for any reason.

Verification Requirements:
Below are listed the minimal requirements needed for verification. Schools may require further documentation and copies of these documents prior to or when you first report for duty or as further directed by your state authority.
AUSTRALIA
As a teacher wanting relief teaching appointments please note that registration as a teacher with the relevant state authority is a legal requirement to teach in all jurisdictions in Australia except New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. In these states other provisiions are in place. Prospective Relief Teachers are encouraged to refer to the websites of the relevant state authorities for requirements.
South Australia
- Your current Certificate of Teachers Registration
- Current Combined TRT Authority and Acknowledgement Letter from DECS. This Authority only remains valid whilst your Teacher Registration, Employment Declaration, Mandatory Notification and First Aid for Centres and Schools are current.
- Once the first expiry date is reachedyour Authority for TRT becomes invalid.
- Please refer to "Teaching in South Australia Guidelines" or refer to the recruitment website http://www.decs.sa.gov.au/recruit.
- You will need to present a copy of the Authority letter on reporting for duty at schools for the first time.
Queensland
- Details letter of your registration as a supply teacher with Education Queensland or
- Evidence of acceptance for employment by Queensland Catholic Education eg Catholic Education Application Letter for Employment (Stating your Identification Number) or
- Queensland College of Teachers Registration Card (Name on register of teachers http://www.qct.edu.au/)
